Developments in My Garden - Middle Garden
Page 1 Page 2 Lower Garden Crescent Garden The Pond Snow Garden Garden Sculptures vegetable plot Greenhouse
This is the Middle Garden above the beech hedge in July '08 - hold your mouse over the picture (or touch your screen momentarily) and an underlying picture shows the scene as work began in December '05.
The same area in July '08, viewed in the opposite direction. The two posts are for training climbing roses and are made from old cast iron down-spouting - they only appear to be off the vertical due to lens distortion.
The garden as a whole is more naturalistic with curves and follows the underlying terrain, but as a nod to formality a small parterre was constructed. The site slopes down to the left so it was terraced, but in keeping with the more natural look, boulders were used as the retaining wall and to mark out the edges.
The picture above was taken in August '06 after the box edging and central lavender were planted. The remnants of the christmas tree plantation are visible in the background, having been retained as a windbreak. The bare slope in the background has since been developed into another feature - shown on the next pageA more recent picture of the parterre from a slightly different angle.
