Developments in My Garden - Lower Garden

It's a while since this part of the site has been updated and there have been quite a few changes to the garden. The ornamental areas have grown in size as the jungle of over-mature christmas trees has been beaten back.
Looking eastward across the garden, in June '04 most of the trees had gone. The beech hedge which runs across the garden, dividing the lower garden from the middle area is on the top right of the picture above the spade. This has reached its full height now as seen in the picture below. The same view in July '08. The opening in the middle of the beech hedge is highlighted with a pair of terracotta urns. The sweeping bed on the right has since been planted with herbaceous plants. One of the next projects is to install a pond to the far left of this area. The lower garden in July 2013, looking west to east, shows some additions. Note the two circular, stone, raised beds with standard bay trees shown in more detail in the lower picture taken after they were constructed in 2012.
