Pineappleweed

Scientific Names: Matricaria matricarioides syn. Matricaria discoidea
Other names: Rayless Mayweed, Pineapple Mayweed
Family: Asteraceae

Annual, spreading by seed. The finely-cut leaves have a distinctive sweet pineapple or apple aroma when crushed. Resistant to trampling. A native of N-E Asia and believed to have arrived here via N. America late last century. The seed are transported on feet and have also been shown to be carried around on vehicle tyres, so it is usually associated with footpaths and roadside verges.
Flowers from June to July, rayless bright yellow domes.
Height - up to 40 cm.
Hoe or hand pull before flowering - easily uprooted.
Weedkillers to use:-
Residual herbicides prevent germination.
Paraquat, Diquat kill on contact.
